    Hey Scott Marshall,

I am not Eric, but I am someone like you – a kid who, at sixteen years old, wanted to learn how to sing but thought it was too late. I had no money for a private vocal tutor, all I had was my voice and a guitar. But I really wanted to learn it, so I taught myself. I was learning both instruments, guitar and singing, at the same time. One of the most important things I did was to record myself, or feedback a microphone through a headset, so I could hear myself. I used the instrument to keep me in tune when practicing scales, and then when i was good enough at guitar, i would start to sing along with the chords – my favourite songs, at first, but then improvising, just messing about. My octave range has increased where I can now sing almost any note in Coldplay songs, and I can perform in front of people with less anxiety. More importantly, I have taken the knowledge I have acquired through my self-tuition, and am now teaching my friend how to sing.

I am not an exceptional singer, but I have put the time and effort in to what I love to do, and it has been rewarded :)
